Mark Stenquist
Co-Founder & Lead Engineer
Mark is a lead engineer with 16+ years of experience building thoughtful, high-quality web experiences. He got his start at CampusLIVE, a startup his brother co-founded, where he helped grow the company through multiple funding rounds with prominent Boston VCs as part of a scrappy team of eight. From there he joined CustomMade, a Google Ventures-backed marketplace, where he honed his craft creating digital experiences connecting makers with customers. After going independent in 2015, he consulted for Boston startups across industries, and those connections eventually led him to co-found VisualBoston. Mark rebuilt the company’s website using Anthropic’s Claude Code, leads the engineering practice, and mentors the design team on engineering fundamentals to bridge the gap between design and development. Outside of work, Mark is a dad of three, permaculture-certified gardener, and guitar player.

Revamping VisualBoston with Claude Code
For the past three weeks, we've been overhauling the VisualBoston website with a completely new approach. This update is not just about a fresh design but about how we build and deliver websites.

2024: A Milestone Year For VisualBoston
This past year was one for the record books at VisualBoston. We achieved significant success on multiple fronts, including crossing the $1MM annual revenue milestone for the first time since founding the business in early 2020. While we're proud of this achievement, we’re continuing to be laser-focused on optimizing and streamlining our operations to allow more time to focus on creative work.

Why we started VisualBoston and our plans for building our digital agency
I remember when I finally convinced my co-founder Alec Harrison to start an agency with me. I had been an independent contractor for several years but eventually realized that if I wanted to grow a meaningful and successful business, finding the right partner would be a huge advantage. Plus, building an agency with someone else would be a lot more fun.
